Based in South Australia, Softwoods has built a strong reputation over more than 30 years, known for outdoor timber products, pergolas, decks and screening. With three stores in Adelaide, an established online presence and a partnership with Bunnings supplying outdoor kits, Softwoods has become a trusted name in home improvement.
Now, the business has taken a natural step forward by moving into roof truss manufacturing, supported by MiTek software and solutions.
“We recognised there was a gap in the market here in South Australia,” said Phil Bissett, Business Development Manager at Softwoods. “Our business has always been built on excellent customer service and we want to bring that same approach to truss manufacturing.”
Softwoods is well positioned to take on this next stage of growth. With a solid customer base of builders and carpenters, the business is looking to fill a need in the market and expand its offering. The early stages have not been without challenges – setting up the facility, investing in equipment and finding the right team – but with support from MiTek, the path forward is clear.
“MiTek has been with us every step of the way,” Phil explained. “The software setup was efficient and well supported, and the training helped us establish our systems quickly and understand the real potential of the software. We were surprised by just how much assistance was on offer – from workflows and reporting through to setting targets and helping us find our feet in this sector.”
With a dedicated business development and sales focus, along with early demand in place, the focus now is on scaling. The current facility is small, but Softwoods already has plans for future growth, including the potential to merge into a larger operation to allow for expansion.
“Our plan is to grow the business to a point where we outgrow this facility,” Phil said. “Early signs show that will not take long, given our size and the potential we see in the market. We will continue to expand and invest in new machinery and equipment to allow us to be much more efficient.”
